Currently, 1 in 3 people over 65 will die with dementia. Alzheimer’s Society predicts that by 2025, the number of sufferers will reach 1 million.

A membership organisation, Alzheimer’s Society reaches out to 30 thousand people each week via 250 local branches, providing aid to both the victims of dementia and the carers who provide support. Staff and volunteers are on hand to provide information on diagnosis, care services, support groups and outings for victims, or even just an understanding ear - those in need are able to contact a national helpline or join Talking Point, an online support network.

Aside from their support services, Alzheimer’s Society invests £1.5 million in research every year. QRD – or Quality Research in Dementia Programme – works in all fields of the disease, from causes to treatments to cures. The programme is currently focused on stem cell research, as well as early diagnosis, risk factors, vaccines and alternative and complementary therapies. However, due to a lack of funds, QRD is currently forced to turn down 7 of every 8 research proposals it receives.

When one of those proposals could potentially lead to a cure, your donation really counts.

How the charity works

The society’s helpline provides a vital connection for those suffering directly or indirectly from the effects of dementia, but it takes a quarter of a million pounds each year to keep the service up and running, making donations vital. You will of course also be funding the work of QRD, a more than worthy way to show you care.

Donations from the general public ensure that no-one has to suffer the effects of any form of dementia alone and the possibility of a future free from this devastating disease.

Alzheimer's Protest

Alzheimer's Society protested at the House of Commons. The aim was to raise awareness of the financial burden dementia patients suffer at the hand of government policy.
